African swamphen – Porphyrio madagascariensis – is a large resident African rail of Type – marshfowl, Family Rallidae and Order Gruiformes. It is resident in s s Africa and the Nile Valley of Egypt. In the AWB Region it is resident in Egypt as noted above, and Mali, Niger and W Chad.
