Baillon’s crake

The Baillon’s crake – Zapornia pusilla or Marsh crake is a small rail species of Type – marshfowl, Family Rallidae and Order Gruiformes. It is widely but thinly distributed across Europe but its main breeding range is right across Asia from Ukraine to Japan, it migrates to the south in the Indian sub-Continent and SE Asia. In the AWB Region some small isolated Breeding areas are found in N Morocco and Jordan, also some Resident areas are located in Palestine and the Nile Delta Region. There is noticeable Passage movement across N Africa, the Levant and the Nile Valley.

Migrant Habitat - varied marshy habitats,
