Bat hawk - Macheiramphus alcinus - is a medium sized resident Afro/Asian raptor of Type - diurnal-raptor, Family Accipitridae and Order Accipitriformes. It has two populations, SE Asia and s s Africa. Although it is a typical Accipitriforme it is a crepuscular feeder (at dusk), feeding almost entirely on bats in a wide range of more open wooded habitats. In the AWB Region it is resident in the far S of Mali, Niger, Chad and Somalia, and is recorded as Accidental in Comoros.
