Black-necked grebe

The Black-necked grebe Podiceps nigricollis or Eared grebe is a small diving species of Type – waterbird, the Family Podicipedidae, and Order Podicipediformes. It has a very wide range across the Holarctic and African Regions. Within the AWB Region its breeding range is the S Caucasus, elsewhere it is resident in a few small scattered areas across Turkey, NW and S Iran, E Iraq and a few Southern Gulf states. Its wintering range includes the SW Coasts of the Black sea, The Aegean Sea, Central and W Turkey, Cyprus and S Iraq. It also winters across the N African coasts from Morocco to The Levant and the Nile Valley.

Winter Habitat - sheltered coasts, bays, estuaries, smaller lakes, reservoirs, gravel pits,
