Black redstart – Phoenicurus ochruros – is a small Eurasian passerine of Type – sallyer, Family Muscicapidae and Order Passeriformes. It has an extensive range across Eurasia from Iberia to Mongolia, and has a complex pattern of resident and migratory populations. In the E and Centre it is migratory but in the W it becomes resident in many isolated areas. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to the North of the region, ie: Turkey, S Caucasus, Iran and the Levant, but in Turkey and the Levant it also becomes resident and a winter visitor. In the N Maghreb states it also become resident and a winter visitor, elsewhere it is a winter visitor to coastal Mauritania, the N African coastal areas of Libya, Egypt, the Nile Valley and the Red Sea coastal areas from SE Egypt to Somaliland.
