The Blue-cheeked bee-eater – Merops persicus is a species of Type – sallyer of the Family Meropidae and the Order Coraciiformes. It is a summer breeder from NW Africa, the Middle East to SW Kazakhstan and NW India, and winters in s s Africa. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to the Maghreb states, Nile Delta, the Fertile Crescent, E Turkey, E UAE and NE Oman. There are small isolated resident populations in the southern areas of Mauritania, Mali and Chad, but the main wintering area starts to the south of these resident populations except in E Sudan where the wintering area starts from the latitude of N Eritrea southwards.
