Blue rock-thrush – Monticola solitarius – is a large migratory/resident Eurasian chat, of Type – sallyer, Family Muscicapidae and Order Passeriformes. It is found across the warmer areas of Eurasia from Iberia to Japan and migrates S over an equally extensive winter range from NW Africa to the Philippines. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to N Central and E Turkey, S Caucasus and Iran, and is resident in W and S Turkey, Cyprus, the Levant and the Maghreb states. It winters in S Iran, S Iraq, Kuwait, the lower Gulf states, Sinai and Yemen, In Africa there are separate wintering areas in Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Djibouti and Somaliland. There is a large wintering area spreading over Chad, Sudan and Eritrea.
