Common chaffinch – Fringilla coelebs – is a small migratory/resident Eurasian passerine of Type – granivore, Family Fringillidae and Order Passeriformes. It is found across Europe to Central Asia, in the N and NE it is a summer breeder, in temperate Europe it becomes resident to N Africa and SW Asia. It winters in many small isolated areas from N Africa to Bhutan. In the AWB Region there is a patchwork mixture of resident and wintering areas. the main resident areas are across Turkey into the S Caucasus and N Iran and across the N African coastal areas, along with the Levant and Cyprus, all of these areas are interspersed with small wintering areas except E Iraq which has a large wintering area.
