The Common snipe – Gallinago gallinago is a smallish migratory wader of the family Scolopacidae. It is an extensive summer breeder across the Northern Palearctic but becomes resident in certain areas of Temperate W Europe. In winter it migrates to the Tropics in Africa, SW Asia, S Asia and SE Asia. In the AWB Region it winters extensively near the coasts of the Mediterranean Basin, Azerbaijan, NE Iran, E Iraq, and near the coasts of the Arabian Peninsula, also the Nile Valley and across the Southern Sahel states, including Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia.
