The Crowned sandgrouse – Pterocles coronatus, is a smaller sandgrouse species of Type – landfowl, Family Pteroclidae, and Order Pterocliformes. It is native and resident in N Africa and the Middle East. In the AWB Region it has a complex distribution of areas where it is resident and is present in most of the countries, but less so in the northerly countries and around the Horn of Africa, however it stands out as being one of the few birds that has a wide resident distribution across many parts of the Sahara Desert.
