The European Storm Petrel – Hydrobates pelagicus is one of the smallest species of Type – seabird, it is in the Family Hydrobatidae and Order Procellariiformes. The main species breeds on islands off NW Europe and migrates and disperses in the E Atlantic as far as S Africa, but there is also a subspecies that lives in the W Mediterranean. In the AWB Region, the Mediterranean sub-species is present off the coasts of the Maghreb states and the Atlantic species is found offshore from N Morocco to Mauritania.
