The Great cormorant – Phalacrocorax carbo is a large marine species of Type – seabird of the Family Phalacrocoracidae and the Order Suliformes. It is widespread around the Tropical and Temperate World extending further north as a summer breeder in the N Atlantic. In the AWB Region it is a breeding summer visitor to Atlantic coasts of NW Africa, Turkey, the South Caucasus and adjoining NW Iran and is resident in small suitable areas in the Nile Delta, Turkey, the Caspian Sea area of Iran, and the SE Mekran coast of Iran. It winters along the Tigris Euphrates Valleys, the Nile Valley and coastal Algeria and Tunisia.
