The Great Northern diver – Gavia immer or Common loon is a large diver of Type – waterbird, Family Gaviidae and Order Gaviiformes. It is a summer breeder to N America, S Greenland and Iceland, and winters off the coasts of NW Europe from Iceland and N Norway to Portugal. The AWB Region lies to the S of this normal range but it is recorded as Accidental in Morocco.

Type - waterbird - nest is a large plant structure, usually sheltered by vegetated lake margins at the waters edge, 
Summer Habitat - quite large and deep lakes with bays and islands in the Taiga or Tundra regions
Winter Habitat - inshore sheltered coastal waters, bays, estuaries, inlets, lagoons, also inland lakes, reservoirs,
