The Great Shearwater – Ardenna gravis – is a large shearwater of Type – seabird, Family Procellariidae and Order Procellariiformes. It breeds on a few islands in the S Atlantic and is one of the few birds that breed in the S Hemisphere and Migrates to ‘winter’ in the N Hemisphere. This is executed as part of a large circulatory journey through both the S and N Atlantic oceans. In the AWB Region it is found in the Atlantic waters offshore of Mauritania, Western Sahara and Morocco, during late autumn.

Type - seabird - colonial, nests in small burrows or in open grass, 
Breeding Habitat - islands in the S Atlantic, 
Wintering Habitat - pelagic N and S Atlantic Oceans, gregarious and forms noisy feeding flocks,
