The Green sandpiper – Tringa ochropus is a small Palearctic migratory wader of the family Scolopacidae. It is an extensive summer breeder across Northern Eurasia, and migrates widely to winter in the Tropics of the Old World. In the AWB Region it is a winter visitor to W Turkey, Cyprus, The Levant, S Iraq and the coasts of Arabia. In Africa it winters in the Sahel and further south, including Eritrea, Djibouti, W Somaliland and S Somalia, the Maghreb coastal regions and the Nile Valley. In the winter it is often found alone near suitable water such as in wadis.
