The Lesser black-backed gull – Larus fuscus is a large migratory Palearctic gull of Type – seabird of the family Laridae and the Order Charadriiformes. It is an extensive summer breeder across arctic Eurasia, but is very unusual in that some Icelandic breeders migrate W to winter on the Atlantic seaboard of N America. In the AWB Region it winters around the waters off SW Turkey, the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, Off the eastern coast of N Africa from NE Egypt to S Somalia, Off the Maghreb states coasts and the Atlantic coasts from Straits of Gibraltar to S Mauritania, and inland areas of S Mali, S Niger and S Chad.
