The Merlin – Falco columbarius is a small species of Falcon of Type diurnal-raptor in the Family Falconidae and the Order Falconiformes. It is a migratory species found right across the northern hemisphere, it has a Holarctic breeding Range and migrates S to winter in N Africa, Europe, the northern Middle East, SW and SE Asia. In the AWB Region it winters in Turkey, S Caucasus, Iran, Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, the Levant and Cyprus. In Africa it winters in the Nile Delta and the coastal Maghreb states.
