Northern Goshawk

Northern Goshawk – Accipiter gentilis – is a medium-large raptor of the family Accipitridae, the Order Accipitriformes and the Type – diurnal-raptor. It has a huge range across the Mature Deciduous and Boreal Forests of the Holarctic Zone, where it is largely resident except in the far north where it becomes migratory to more southerly regions. In the AWB Region it is resident in NW Morocco, much of the suitable habitat in Turkey, the Southern Caucasus extending into NE Turkey and NW Iran, Cyprus and The Levant.

Type – diurnal-raptor
Habitat Summer: Mature deciduous and Coniferous forests, with open spaces, more remote from human activity,
Habitat Nests.: in tall trees, with open spaces, and intermediate canopy, up to mountain forests,
Habitat passage: generally more visibly open spaces
Habitat Winter: lower and warmer remote forest edges
