Northern wheatear – Oenanthe oenanthe – is a migratory Holarctic wheatear of Type – sallyer, Family, Muscicapidae and Order Passeriformes. It has the most extensive range of all wheatears, but all birds migrate back to Africa. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to the Levant, Turkey, S Caucasus and Iran, and it winters across the Sahel states from Mauritania to Sudan and into SE Egypt and S Somalia. The Maghreb states are unique in that they have a patchwork of small areas where it has become resident, and they also have a little to the South, a few small isolated wintering areas.
