The Red phalarope – Phalaropus fulicarius is known as the Grey phalarope in Europe is a small migratory Holarctic wader of the family Scolopacidae. It is a summer breeder to the High Arctic and is very unusual in migrating almost entirely over open oceans to winter at sea offshore from the W coasts of the Americas, W Africa, S Africa and the Atlantic Ocean off the Caribbean Sea. In the AWB Region we have one such area, offshore from the coasts of Mauritania and Western Sahara, south of the Canaries.
