Sand martin – Riparia riparia – or (Bank swallow in US) is a small migratory Holarctic martin 0f Type – aerialist, Family Hirundinidae and Order Passeriformes. It is a very widespread summer breeder in both the Old and New worlds. The European and W Asian populations migrate to s s Africa. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to Turkey, S Caucasus, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and the Nile Valley of Egypt. It winters coast to coast across the Sahel Belt into Eritrea, Djibouti and S Somalia.
