Scopidae – Hamerkops+ is a Family of wading birds that at the moment contains only one species, the Hamerkop, so named because the head and the backwards facing crest give the impression of a hammer. It is extensively found over s s Africa and into SW Arabia. It is a medium sized wadingbird, with a shorter bill, neck and legs, giving it a more compact look. It is found in a wide range of shallow water wetlands, and is frequently found near human habitation. It can also be found on rocky shores and wadis with water and vegetation. It is in the Order Pelecaniformes and it is of Type -Wading-bird.
