Socotra Cormorant

The Socotra cormorant – Phalacrocorax nigrogularis, is a large surface diving marine species of Type – seabird endemic to the coasts of the Arabian Gulf, the NW Indian Ocean, Arabia and Socotra island. It is a member of the Family Phalacrocoracidae and the Order Suliformes. It nests colonially on isolated islands, up to 10’s of thousands at a time, see the video below.

Type - seabird - colonial breeder, nests on the ground, but also forms gregarious flocks for feeding and roosting,
