The Spotted crake (Porzana porzana) is a small species of water bird of the family Rallidae. It has an extensive range across Eurasia to Mongolia, it is strongly migratory with the eastern birds wintering in the Indian sub-continent and the western birds in Africa. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder in NE Turkey, The S Caucasus and NW Iran, there is a small breeding population in S Iran near some of the Arabian Gulf coastal areas. There are a few small wintering areas in Palestine, N Egypt and NW Morocco, but the main wintering range is from E Sudan down into southern Africa. There is noticeable passage movement across the N African coastal strip and down the Nile Valley / Red Sea corridor.
