Whinchat – Saxicola rubetra – is a migratory W Palearctic chat of Type – sallyer, Family Muscicapidae and Order Passeriformes. It has an extensive summer breeding range over N and Temperate Palearctic, and in winter migrates to the southern Sahel Belt countries of Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad, Sudan, Eritrea, and into E Africa. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to NE Turkey, the S Caucasus and NW Iran.
