Whiskered tern

The Whiskered tern – Chlidonias hybrida is the largest of the Marsh terns and of Type – seabird, which are part of the family Laridae and the Order Charadriiformes. They are found in fresh water marshes extensively over Eurasia Africa and Australasia. Over its very extensive range, it has various subspecies which are both migratory and resident. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to Turkey, The South Caucasus, Iran, Syria and Iraq. In the winter these birds migrate to Africa north of the equator but are largely absent from the central Sahara Desert, The Horn of Africa and eastern Ethiopia, but also have small isolated wintering areas in the central valleys of Iraq, coastal Palestine and the N coast of The Sinai. There are also isolated resident populations across the Maghreb States.
