White-backed Night-heron – Gorsachius leuconotus – is a largish resident African heron of Type wading-bird, Family Ardeidae and Order Pelecaniformes. It is widely distributed over s s Africa, where it is found along rivers and streams as a noisy nocturnal feeder. In the AWB Region it is found in suitable areas of the sahel in Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad, Sudan and Eritrea.
