Eurasian blackcap – Sylvia atricapilla – is a medium sized Eurasian migratory warbler of Type – insectivore, Family Sylviidae and Order Passeriformes. It is found across Eurasia from SW Europe to Central Asia, in the W and the Mediterranean area it is resident and elsewhere it is migratory, in the winter it migrates to the Mediterranean area and Africa. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to the Black Sea coastal areas of Turkey, S Caucasus, and N Iran. For the main wintering areas there are two flyways, on the W and E of North Africa, the western flyway leads to wintering in W Africa and the eastern route to wintering in Ethiopia and E Africa. There is also a coastal strip along the N Maghreb states where it remains resident.
