Goliath heron – Ardea goliath – is a very large Afro/Asian heron of Type – wadingbird, Family Ardeidae and Order Pelecaniformes. It is mostly found in s s Africa and a few small areas in SW Asia. In the AWB Region it is found as resident across the Sahel Belt states plus Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, and SE Egypt. In Asia it is found in limited numbers in SE Iran, W Yemen and a few Red Sea islands off the coast of SW KSA.
