Alpine swift

The Alpine swift – Tachymarptis melba is a large species of the Type – aerial bird family Apodidae. As its name suggests, it is found breeding in mountain ranges from Portugal to Bhutan, and migrates to sub-Saharan Africa in the winter. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder in its specialists habitat in, the Maghreb states, Libya, The Levant, Cyprus, Turkey, The South Caucasus, N & W Iran, SW Saudi Arabia and W Yemen. Its wintering range includes S Mali, S Niger, SE Sudan and Eritrea.

Type - aerial - nests colonially on cliffs, mountains, large buildings
Habitat - largely mountainous areas,
