Eurasian green woodpecker – Picus viridis – or European green woodpecker – is a quite large resident Eurasian woodpecker of Type – arboreal-forager, Family Picidae and Order Piciformes. It has a widespread range over Europe that extends into SW Asia. In the AWB Region it is resident in Turkey, S Caucasus, Iran, NE Iraq and NE Syria, where it inhabits open grassy areas such as farmland with scattered trees and hedgerows. It spends more time on the ground than typical woodpeckers searching for ants as its major source of food.
