The Glossy Ibis – Plegadis falcinellus is a mid-sized Ibis of the wading-bird Family Threskiornithidae and the Order Pelecaniformes. It is found in the warmer areas of both the Old and New Worlds. It is a migrant summer breeder from SW Europe to Central Asia. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to Turkey, the Levant, S Caucasus and Iran, and a winter visitor to the Maghreb states and Iraq. There is a large resident population over most of Africa where suitable habitats exist starting southwards from W Mauritania and the the Nile Valley/Red Sea area from the Nile Delta to s s Africa.

Type - wading-bird - prefers tall trees for roosting, 
Breeding Habitat - large very shallow wetland areas with suitable dense cover of reeds, bushes, or trees, 
Wintering Habitat - smaller suitable wetlands, including coastal areas,
