The Procellariidae – Shearwaters+ or Procellariidae – Petrels & Shearwaters are the ‘true Petrels’ and are a large family of pelagic, medium sized species of Type – seabird found across all the Oceans of the World. They are characterized by their tubular nostrils, hooked beaks and long pointed wings. They are in the Order Procellariiformes. Petrels of the Genus Pterodroma are also known as Gadfly petrels.
