Reed bunting – Emberiza schoeniclus – or Common Reed bunting – is a small migratory/resident Eurasian passerine of Type- granivore, Family Emberizidae and Order Passeriformes. It is an extensive summer breeder over N Eurasia, and it becomes resident in W Europe, to SW and S Central Asia. It winters around the Mediterranean and SW Asia and Eastwards into China and Japan. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to a few small areas in E Turkey and the S Caucasus. It becomes resident in small areas over Turkey, the S Caucasus, Iran and Morocco, and its main wintering areas are in Iran, W Turkey, and the N Maghreb states, and to a lesser extent in E Iraq, Syria, Cyprus, S Levant, N Libya, and the N Coastal Maghreb states.
