The Burhinidae – Thick-knees+ or Burhinidae – Thick-knees and Stone-curlews are medium to large species of Type – wader of the family Burhinidae, and of the Order Charadriiformes. They are concentrated in The Tropics but a few extend to more Temperate Regions. More information on waders can be found here. An interesting feature of these birds is that many of them are crepuscular or nocturnal and partial to drier environments. They are also more traditionally known as Stone-curlews or Dikkops.
