Greater painted-snipe

The Greater painted-snipe – Rostratula benghalensis, is a medium sized species of Type – Wader of the family Rostratulidae. and the Order Charadriiformes. It is resident across Sub-Saharan Africa, S and SE Asia, with a smaller summer breeding range in N China. In the AWB Region there are two outlying resident areas, The Nile delta region, and Palestine/S Jordan area. Elsewhere it is resident in S Mauritania, S Mali, S Niger, S Chad, S Sudan, N Eritrea and NW & SE Somalia.

Type - wader - ground nest hidden amongst tall grass or reeds at the waters edge,
Resident Habitat - Typically found near reed beds in swamps, marshes and other wetlands,
