The Northern pintail (Anas acuta) is a large dabbling duck of extremely wide Holarctic Range. It breeds across the high Northern regions of America and Eurasia and migrates South to more Temperate and even Tropical Regions. The AWB Region serves only as wintering grounds, where it is found in the Maghreb States and a band right across the Sahel states where it joins with a wide Nile Valley corridor down to Ethiopia and beyond into East Africa. Smaller concentrations can be found across the Levant, Cyprus, Turkey and the South Caucasus. The largest area covers most of Iran and extends into Southern Iraq.
