The Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is a dabbling duck which ranges over the full Holarctic Region. Within the AWB Region it is resident across the Maghreb and Libyan coastal areas. In Egypt and Sudan it is mainly a winter visitor to the Nile Valley habitat. It is resident over most of Turkey and NW Iran, in the South Caucasus it is mostly a summer breeder. It winters in suitable areas across Cyprus and the Levant and with a large area in Southern Iraq. It is resident in many isolated areas across Arabia particularly in the UAE.
