Red-backed shrike – Lanius collurio – is a Eurasian migratory species of Type- sallyer, Family Laniidae and Order Passeriformes. It is a widespread summer breeder from N Iberia to Central Asia and winters in southern Africa. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder to Turkey, the S Caucasus, NW Iran and the Levant. It is found on Passage in the Eastern half of N Africa, to winter in southern Africa from Kenya southwards.

Summer Habitat - heathland, open arable land with hedgerows thorny bushes, and roadside overhead wires,
Winter Habitat - open wooded countryside with thorn bushes,
