Red Kite - Milvus milvus - is a medium-large raptor of the family Accipitridae, the Order Accipitriformes and is of Type - diurnal-raptor. It is found across most of western Europe. In the AWB Region it is a winter visitor across the Norther half of Turkey extending over NW Iran and the Southern Caucasus, where it becomes resident in NW Georgia. It is discontinuously present as a winter visitor across the Maghreb Atlas Region, where in NW Morocco it becomes more numerous and also becomes resident in some favourable areas. It is by nature primarily an opportunistic scavenger of small mammals and carrion. Type - diurnal-raptor - Habitat Summer: Varied open spaces, grass, arable, rough pasture, moorland, all with adjacent deciduous woods for cover, Habitat Nests - high in tall tree, in lowland to upland woods, sometimes riparian, Habitat passage - largely resident, more migratory in Eastern Europe Habitat Winter - more southerly woodlands
