The Short-eared owl – Asio flammeus is a medium sized species of Type – nocturnal-raptor, Owl Family Strigidae and the Order Strigiformes. It has a world-wide distribution except for Indonesia, Australasia and Antarctica. In the AWB Region it is not found as a summer migrant, however there is a resident population in the South Caucasus, and there are many distributed areas where it is found as a winter visitor in Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Cyprus, S Levant, the Nile Delta, Libya, the Maghreb states, Mali, Niger and Chad.

Resident Habitat - open valleys, moorland, heathland, in mountainous areas. 
Winter Habitat - open wetlands, coastal areas,
