Common Buzzard – Buteo buteo – is a medium sized raptor, of the Family Accipitridae, the Order Accipitriformes and is of Type – diurnal-raptor. It is resident over most of Temperate Europe but becomes a summer migrant in the cooler regions further North and East into Central Asia. In the AWB Region it is resident across Northern Turkey, the Southern Caucasus, and Northern Iran. It becomes a winter visitor across Southern Turkey, the Levant, Northern Syria & Iraq, the Maghreb Coast, the Northern Nile Valley, the SW Corner of Arabia and into Eritrea extending in a band across the Eastern side of Africa.

Habitat Hunting: Open land, usually surveyed from a prominent perch
Habitat Nesting: Fringes of woodland, nests on a forked branch of a large tree,
Habitat Winter: More open grassland and steppes
