Kentish plover

The Kentish ploverCharadrius alexandrinus is a small species of Type – Wader of the family Charadriidae and Order Charadriiformes. It has a cosmopolitan distribution across temperate and tropical Eurasia and N Africa. It appears to have two populations, one strongly migratory and the other resident. In the AWB Region it is summer breeder in the S Caucasus, and dispersed areas of Turkey and N Syria, and NE Iran. It is resident in dispersed areas of Turkey Iran, the Levant and N Syria, the main river valleys of Iraq and both the N and S coastlines of the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, also the Red Sea coasts of Saudi Arabia and Yemen. It is resident along all the shores of N Africa from Mauritania to the Horn of Africa and a winter visitor to S Mali, S Niger, S Chad, S and E Sudan, E Egypt and E Somalia South of the Horn of Africa.

Summer Habitat - open shores of saline lakes, lagoons, coasts,
Winter Habitat - the Sahel corridor, plus E Egypt, E Sudan, and coastal Somalia, 
Resident Habitat - flat open sabkha pans,
