Pallid Harrier

Pallid Harrier – Circus macrourus – is a medium sized, migratory Raptor of the Family Accipitridae, the Order Accipitriformes and is of Type – diurnal-raptor. In summer it breeds from Ukraine to NW Mongolia. In winter the Central Asian breeders migrate to the Indian subcontinent, the W Asian and E European birds migrate to sub-Saharan Africa (except for dense forests and arid areas). Across the AWB Region it is largely a bird of passage except from the Sahel southwards where they become winter migrants. There are a number of small isolated areas across the Middle East and the Maghreb where it also appears to overwinter.

Habitat Summer: Steppes and grassy plains near wetlands, nests on ground or swamps, hidden in vegetation
Habitat Winter: also open country, farmland, open woodland and mountain plateau
