Hen Harrier – Circus cyaneus – or Northern harrier is a migratory Holarctic, medium sized Raptor of the Family Accipitridae, the Order Accipitriformes and is of Type – diurnal-raptor. It is widely distributed right across Eurasia from W to Far E. In E Europe to the Far E, it is a Summer Migrant but in W Europe it is a patchwork of Resident and Winter Migrant. In the AWB Region it is a Winter Migrant to parts of the Maghreb, the Nile Delta, the Levant, Turkey, the Caucasus, E Iraq, and W, N & Central Iran.

Habitat Summer: Varied open upland areas, steppes, grassland, farmland, marshes, bogs, swamps, moorland,
Habitat Summer: nests on the ground, in clumps of vegetation or young conifers, rarely trees
Habitat Winter: Open lowland country, coastal marshes, estuaries, heaths, often roosts with other Raptors
