The Pin-tailed sandgrouse – Pterocles alchata is medium large bird of the Family Pteroclidae and Order Pterocliformes. It is present in The Iberian Peninsular, N Africa, N Arabia and SW Central Asia. In the AWB Region it is resident across the Maghreb states into NW Libya. It is resident across N Arabia into bordering areas of Turkey and Iran, these birds winter just a little further south in NW Saudi Arabia. Some of the birds from Central Asia winter further south in NE Iran.

Type - landfowl - nests on the ground,
Summer Habitat - open treeless country, steppes, plains, 
Winter Habitat - bare agricultural land. 
Resident Habitat - open sandy ground with minimal vegetation,
