The Ruff – Calidris pugnax is a medium sized wader of the family Scolopacidae. It is a summer breeder in the wetlands of northern Eurasia and migrates to Africa and southern Asia in the winter. In the AWB Region it winters in central Turkey, the central valleys of S Iraq, the southern coasts of the Arabian Gulf, the rest of the coasts of Arabia, and Palestine. In N Africa it winters along the coasts of the Maghreb states, NW and NE Libya, the Nile Valley, the Red Sea coasts of Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti and W Somaliland, the southern regions of all the Sahel states and S Somalia.
