Saunders’s tern

The Saunders’s tern – Sternula saundersi is a small tern of Type – seabird of the family Laridae and Order Charadriiformes. it is found in the NW Indian Ocean, where it is both a summer breeder and resident. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder off the coasts of E Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Iran, Oman and Socotra. It is resident off the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia and in S Somalia and in winter is found off both coasts of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden to S Somalia and the Comoros.

Summer Habitat - Arabian coasts and islands as noted above, sand bars, tidal flats, 
Winter Habitat - inshore coasts of the Red Sea, and Gulf of Aden, and E coast of Africa, from the Horn to Madagascar,
Resident Habitat - At a few locations in the Winter Habitat list,
