The Spur-winged lapwing – Vanellus spinosus, (Not to be confused with the Spur-winged plover which will lead you to an Australasian species), is a medium large species of Type – Wader of the family Charadriidae and the Order Charadriiformes. It is a summer breeder up the eastern seaboard of the Red Sea from Yemen to Palestine. Its main summer breeding area is W and Central Turkey with smaller areas in Cyprus, N Syria and Central Iraq. It is mainly resident across sub-Saharan Africa which includes the southern parts of the AWB Region countries from the Atlantic to the Indian Oceans, and also the full length of the Nile Valley.
