The Wood sandpiper – Tringa glareola is a small migratory Palearctic wader of the family Scolopacidae. It is a very extensive summer breeder to the subarctic wetlands of Eurasia, and in the winter migrates S to Africa, the Tropics and Australia. In the AWB Region it is a winter visitor to Palestine, S Iraq, E Arabia, SW Yemen and adjacent Saudi Arabia. In Africa it winters along the coasts of the Maghreb states and the Nile Valley but the main area is in the coast to coast Sahel states including coasts of Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia.
